I heard a great quote this week:
Getting ready is a stalling tactic.
I don’t remember who the quote is credited to however, I think there is a lot of truth to it.
So many of us plan, plan, plan and actually do…… nothing.
Getting prepared is a great disguise for fear. Think about it – by making sure we are fully, totally and absolutely prepared for any eventuality, we are just trying to pre-empt and avoid all the things we fear will arise when we decide to make a change in our lives. We believe that somehow, if we have a plan that addresses each and every possible contingency, then the change we are seeking will be easy, smooth and not at all scary. We’ll feel in control.
The truth is that when you have a big dream, it’s impossible to know every step you need to take to make it happen. Think about it. If you knew how to make your dream come true, you would be living that dream right now, right?
So if you can’t plan each and every step beforehand, how on earth can you make that dream come true?
By simply taking the first step.
Don’t worry about steps 2 through to 1,000! Once you’ve taken step 1, step 2 will appear. Then once step 2 is underway, step 3 will appear, and so on and so forth.
Instead of working on ‘the How’, your job is to work on the most important component for building your dream life: creating clarity of your dream.
When you are crystal clear about the life you want to live, when you can feel it in your bones, in your mind and in your spirit, then the dream will pull you towards itself. In contrast, when you put all our energy on ‘the How’, guess where your focus will be? It’ll be on the circumstances, conditions and problems you believe you need to overcome. You will need all your energy to push through all those circumstances, conditions and problems in order to get to your dream.
And that’s the key difference. You can push yourself through to the dream, or you can let the dream pull you towards it.
Letting go of ‘the How’ seems to be counter-intuitive for all of us who live in this modern world where we have been taught to believe that the only way to get what we want is to push-push-push and work-work-work at it.
Building your dream life does require work, but it shouldn’t feel like you are continually pushing or forcing things to happen. You’ll know if you are on the right path for your life because things will simply flow. And as the energy flows, as you take each step, there will be more and more momentum propelling your forward.
Yes, you need to do some work. Work on building the clarity of your dream. Get crystal clear on what you want your life to look and feel like. You will be amazed at how things start to magically fall into place when you start focusing on your dream and taking just one step at a time.
