“Dare to dream!” You never have to say these words to a child. Children have wild and exciting imaginations naturally. They dream and step into being all sorts of people and doing all sorts of things that bring them such joy as they explore all the possibilities their imaginations came come up with.
And as a child, ANYTHING is possible!
An imagination is just a natural ability we are all born with. Yet, as we grow up, we are conditioned to turn off our imaginations. We’re told to be realistic, as though using the creative part of our mind – our imagination, is somehow no longer needed for living life.
But our imagination is needed, especially when we want to have, or to experience, something new in life. To create something new requires you to go to the creative part of yourself – your imagination. Yet as adults, we can be reluctant to go there. And in fact, we don’t seem to go there very often at all. Well, not unless we ‘dare’ to.
I found the Australian Oxford Dictionary’s definition of ‘to dare’ really interesting:
- To have the courage or impudence
- To defy or challenge
- To take the risk
So, if you are experiencing some degree of discontent with your life as it is now – whether it be the place you find yourself physically, financially, or with your career, health or relationships, I dare you to dream up alternative possibilities. I dare you to dream as you did as a child, and have fun with exploring all the possibilities your imagination can come up with. Because it’s there – in your imagination – the solution to creating change you’ve been longing for.
