Stepping outside of your comfort zone

There’s an obvious attraction to staying in our comfort zone.  It’s comfortable.

It’s where safety lives.  Security. Predictability. Familiarity.  It’s also where we settle.  We accept things as being OK, or fine. It’s where mediocrity lives.   And it also where our longings and discontents can be found.

When it comes to finally deciding to do something about our longings and discontents, that decision causes us to step out into our fears.  We end up being bombarded with all kinds of ‘what if…?’ questions – What if I fail?  What if this is a mistake?  What if I lose all my money?  What if I make a fool of myself? What if I get rejected?  – and the list can go on and on.

But that bridge between where our lives are now and where we would love our lives to be is where courage lives.

And when we take those courageous steps?

Wow…  that’s where we get to experience fulfilment. It’s where we feel powerful, we have freedom and growth.  It’s where opportunities come flooding in.  Possibilities live there. And it’s where we get to feel alive again.

Once we step outside of our comfort zone, that’s when our lives expand.

Let’s face it.  Comfort is nice.  But that’s not where growth, expansion and fulfilment live.

Ask yourself how fulfilled you are with your life right now.  Is there any area in your life where you feel some discontentment?  Is there any area in your life where you feeling a longing for things to be better than they are now, or to simply be different?

Maybe it’s time to step out onto that bridge and face those fears and all of those ‘what if…?’ questions.

Maybe it’s time to unlock the courage that lives inside of you and to step into the life you were meant to be living.
