Have you ever created a vision board?
I remember when I first created mine. I did it with a slightly sceptical mindset. A part of me wanted to believe that I could manifest the life that these images were depicting and yet another part of me was thinking that this was all a bit too woo-woo.
However, even when wearing my sceptic’s hat, creating the vision board made me at least sit down and actually define what it was that I wanted in my life.
So many people go through life, day after day, without a goal, a plan, or actually any idea of what kind of life it is that they want to be living. Many believe that life is something that happens to them and that they don’t have any control in the results of their lives.
This is simply not true.
Even if you decide not to design a future, you will still create one. It will just be a future created by default. Deciding not to decide is still a decision. And it is a decision that will create outcomes.
If we work from the understanding that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, and that our spirit is sourced from God (or if you prefer, you can apply whichever terminology that resonates with you – Universe, Universal Power, Creator, Source), then we have that power of creation inside of us. And that power creates our lives, even if we aren’t consciously aware of it.
What we create is guided by our beliefs. Our beliefs drive our thoughts, which then turn into words we speak and actions we take.
So, if you believe that you have no power to create a life that you would love and that life simply happens to you, rather than through you, then you’ll continue to not take any conscious actions toward creating a life you want, but you’ll simply end up with a life of default results.
Alternatively, you can define the outcomes you want.
A vision board is a creative way to capture your desires and to define what it is you want. Using images and words that connect with your spirit and make you feel alive, creates a spiritual environment where dreams can manifest.
And yes, that may sound a bit woo-woo, but it works.
Before I really started exploring these concepts I got to experience the extraordinary results of having an image that was always in front-of-mind come to pass.
For many years I had wanted to live and work in Peru. I had visited many times and fell in love with the country, the people and the lifestyle. You can imagine that, being such a picturesque country, I had hundreds, if not thousands of photos from my travels across the country.
Out of those photos, I selected one as a background screen for my laptop. It was a simple photo of a flowing river in the town of Urubamba. I thought it was pretty, and apart from that, I didn’t give it much more thought.
I finally arranged to travel to Peru again where I was planning to live for a year. I wasn’t locked into any specific place to base myself, but assumed it would be Lima or Cusco because I knew both of these cities reasonably well.
I’m sure you know where this story is going. Circumstances arose where I found myself living, not in Lima or Cusco, but in Urubamba. This was not on my radar. And even after I had moved into my apartment there, it still didn’t dawn on me how this could have happened. I just remember booting up my laptop to send some emails and consciously noticed the screen image. How odd. What a coincidence, I thought at the time.
Now I get it.
I had been looking at that image multiple times throughout each day for over 2 years prior to actually finding myself living in that spot.
Yes, it is a bit woo-woo. But it works.
Now I am more deliberate with the images and words that I surround myself with and I’m definitely more deliberate with what I place on my vision board.
My vision board captures words and pictures that light me up and make me smile whenever I look at them. And those words and images also give me the vision against which I continually assess my actions. Does this action support me in my journey towards that vision? Yes or No?
If you’ve never created a vision board, why not try it for fun – just as an experiment? You might just find that you can, in fact, create a life that you’d love to be living.
