In this series, I’m taking you through the 5 Dynamical Deeds that you need to complete in order to create the life of your dreams.
We’ve already explored Dynamical Deed #1 – destination and #2 – deadline. If you missed those, I encourage you to follow the links to read the articles and watch the videos.
Today we’ll be looking at Dynamical Deed number 3: Desire.
People often confuse desire with wishing however, when it comes to creating change in your life, it’s really important to understand that there is a difference because simply ‘wishing’ for things to be different won’t cut it.
Whilst you might think that the two words have similar meanings, they are quite different and put you, the change maker, in a very different position of power and control.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, “to wish” means “to hope that something you want will be made real because of good luck or magical powers.”
You see, wishing comes from a place where the power of granting your wish sits with someone else. Someone else will bestow that wish upon you.
Think of a genie in the lamp. Your part is to make a wish, and the genie will bestow that wish upon you. The genie has the power.
But desire is different.
The Cambridge Dictionary’s definition of “to desire” is “a strong feeling that you want something”. It’s only about what you want and doesn’t involve a third party. The drive for fulfilling a desire sits with you, the change maker, not someone or something outside of you.
Desire is yours and it is only yours to fulfil.
Desire is not a place where your ‘shoulds’ or ‘coulds’ live. This Dynamical Deed isn’t about what you think you should want or need, or what you think you could do. Desire doesn’t make any space for past events in your life, nor for any present circumstances you may find yourself in. Desire isn’t held back by any deep-seeded limiting beliefs.
There’s also no room for what other people expect you to want, to be, or to do. Your desire is yours alone. This is where you tap into your heart and really feel excited and inspired by that destination that you’ve defined.
Dynamical Deeds #1 – destination and # 3 – desire, actually work hand-in-hand. You have to know what you want and you have to want it. And I mean really want it – not simply wish for it and hope that by some magical power it shows up.
That’s why when working with clients, I get them to write long, detailed lists of what they want for their lives. And why, when making these lists, there needs to be clarity and emotional connection. Otherwise, well, they’d simply be creating a wish list. And, as was explained above, wishing won’t get you there.
So, go back and think about what you designed as your destination. When you think about it, does it stir up feelings of excitement? Does it put a smile on your face? Do you really – and I mean really – want it? If not, then go back to Dynamical Deed #1, and design that future life that you would truly, truly love.
OK. That’s it for Dynamical Deed #3 – Desire. There are two more that I’ll be coving in upcoming publications. However, if you’d love some help in getting in touch with what you’d truly love and really tapping into the desire you have for your dream life, then join me for one of my upcoming webinars where I’ll take you through that very process, and much, much more.
