The problem with judging the progress someone is making in their lives by only looking at what is visible, is that you can’t see the work and the growth that is taking place below the surface.
If we can’t see visible changes, whether it be in other people or ourselves, we can easily fall into the trap of believing that nothing is happening. We can dismiss someone else’s efforts by saying things like “I told you it wouldn’t work” and knocking them off their chosen course. Or when it comes to the changes we want to see in our own lives, we can give up on our goals and dreams prematurely – not giving them the chance to come to fruition.
Have a look at this avocado seed that I dropped into a glass many, many weeks ago.
From the surface, you can’t see any growth. How easy would it be to give up on it, thinking that no tree is possible from this particular seed? But have a look at what’s going on below the surface? There are strong roots forming, and they will provide the foundation and the life from which a new avocado tree will eventually emerge.
So, I have a simple message of encouragement for you today…
Don’t give up on your dream just because you can’t see all the changes you want to see happening in your life right now. As long as you keep nurturing your dream, keep it front of mind, keep exploring, and keep taking actions, be assured that growth is happening below the surface. You are building the foundation upon which your new life will eventually emerge.
